Samajwadi students’ body sweeps Allahabad University elections, ABVP wins just 1 post

Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha has swept the student body polls in Allahabad University by winning four out of five posts on Saturday. They won the post of President, Vice-President, Joint Secretary and Cultural Secretary of the central varsity.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student body of the RSS, could win only one post of General Secretary.

The SCS’s Avanish Kumar Yadav has been elected as President after he secured an impressive 3226 votes, beating his nearest rival Mrityunjay Rao Parmar by 552 votes, reported The Hindu. The ABVP’s Priyanka Singh was a distant third with 1588 votes.

Bharat Singh of the SCS won the Joint Secretary post with 2051 votes, defeating Adarsh Shukla by 630 votes.

The SCS’s Vice-President candidate, Chandrashekhar Chaudhary, secured 2249 votes, defeating Shivam Kumar Tiwari of the ABVP by a thin margin of 72.

The ABVP’s Nirbhay Kumar Dwivedi, who secured 2132 votes, defeated his rival from NSUI, Arpit Singh “Rajkumar” by just 62 votes.

A hub for socialist, the central university in Uttar Pradesh had seen the rise of the right-wing politics since 2015, when the ABVP swept the polls by winning four out of five posts. In 2016, it again two key posts and set the tone for the BJP’s victory in the assembly elections.

In 2016, Richa Singh had become the first female to become the student body’s president.
