Retired Indian army officer Amanullah killed by mob in Uttar Pradesh, activist Tehseen Poonawalla demands ‘MaSuKa’

Activist Tehseen Poonawalla has said that the only way to stop the alarming rise in mob lynchings by enacting ‘MaSuKa (Manav Suraksha Kanoon).’ His comments came after in another episode of mob lynching, police in Uttar Pradesh said that a mob had lynched a former Indian army officer, identified as Amanullah, to death. The 64-year-old retired army officer was killed by an unidentified mob in Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Tehseen Poonawalla took to Twitter to write, “Now #MobLynching in Amethi! As per reports: A retired Army officer Amanullah is the latest victim of #MobLynchings in the state of UP! Time to bring in #MaSuKa or Manav Suraksha Kanoon ..The only way to stop #Lynching.”



The incident, reported by news agency PTI, took place on Saturday night in Godiyan ka Purva village under Kamrauli Police Station limits. ASP Dayaram was quoted by the news agency as saying that Amanullah was at his house with his wife when the mob launched a murderous attack on them, killing the retired soldier.

Amanullah’s killers attacked him with sticks on his head resulting in his death on the spot. The deceased’s son has reportedly told the police that no other family members were at home when the attack took place.

Local police said that they had sent the body for post-mortem and launched an investigation in the murder.
