Muslim man, suspected to be cow smuggler, shot dead by locals in UP

A Muslim man was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura on the early hours of Sunday by villagers on suspicion that he was smuggling cows.

PTI quoted Police Superintendent Arun Kumar as saying, “A vehicle was roaming in the area past midnight which made the villagers suspicious. When they started following them, they saw the vehicle carrying four cows. The occupants of the vehicle then started firing at them when they tried to stop them.”

The armed villagers handed over the Shahabuddin to the police but he died before he could be taken to the hospital.

Circle officer Piyush Kumar Singh said, ” the region has a massive presence of cattle smugglers and clashes of them with locals and police are often reported in the area.
