In a shocking development, the Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested a popular dance reality TV show contestant for raping a 17-year-old girl.
The accused, identified as Aditya Gupta, had taken part in a popular dance reality TV show. According to the police, Gupta had come in contact with the girl on social media and met her on Sunday for the first time in Andheri.
Both Gupta and his victim met at McDonald’s in Andheri before he took her to his house. Once inside the house in Nallasopara, he offered the girl food. The food, according to the cops, was laced with a sedative. Gupta then raped the girl before dropping her near the same eatery in Andheri, where they had first met.
The girl was found near the eatery in an unconscious condition on Monday. She contacted her father with the help of the police. The girl’s father had already filed a complaint with the police alleging his daughter’s kidnapping on Monday morning after she did not return home on Sunday. “After dropping her at the eatery, he fled with her SIM card. In order to mislead the investigators the accused even deleted the WhatsApp app from her mobile phone,” Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying.
The girl was sent for medical examination after she regained her consciousness and recorded her statement with the police. A special crime branch team of Mumbai police consisting of police inspector Mahesh Desai, assistant police inspector Sharad Darade and constables Rajendra Pednekar, Mahesh Naik and Praful Patil was formed. Using Gupta’s call data records, the special team successfully arrested him from Andheri.
Gupta, who’s booked under POCSO, is reported to have confessed to his crime. He was handed over to the DN Nagar Police and is likely to be produced before a local court in Mumbai on Wednesday.
