Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar has said that by questioning the role of the RSS in the murder of Mahatma Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi has asked Indians to decide on the definition of real Hindu.
Speaking to ABP News’ flagship programme, Press Conference, Babbar said that time had come for Indians to decide which side of the fence they sat on.
He said, “Rahul Gandhi has raised a very important question. Indians have to decide on the definition of real Hindu in the country. Are real Hindus those who side with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who died chanting Hey Ram? Or the real Hindus are the supporters of a man who killed the Mahatma?”
Answering a question from www.jantakareporter.com’s editor-in-chief, Rifat Jawaid, on whether his party will seek to foster an alliance with the BSP, Babbar said that it wasn’t on the agenda.
He said, “We’ve decided to seek mandate for full majority. There’s no question of seeking support from someone (the BSP supremo Mayawati), who herself is in dire need of support from others.”
Babbar also said that Priyanka Gandhi had not yet decided whether she will actively campaign for the party in the next year’s assembly elections.
When asked if he was disappointed on not being projected as the party’s chief ministerial candidate, Babbar said that he was honoured to be ‘stepney (a spare tyre)’ of an excellent vehicle.
“I don’t mind being a stepney of an excellent car. Sheila Dikshit has a 15 years of pedigree of good development in Delhi.”
The entire programme will be broadcast on ABP News tonight at 2000 hours.
