Senior journalist Rahul Mahajan was on Saturday appointed as the new editor-in-chief of Rajya Sabha TV. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu approved his appointment accepting recommendation of a 5-member selection panel chaired by Prasar Bharti Chairman A Surya Prakash.
Mahajan, who has 26 yrs of experience in journalism including 23 years in news channels, will replace Gurpreet Singh Sappal, who was sacked from his post after Naidu was elected as the new Vice President of India. Mahajan is currently working as the consulting editor at Prasar Bharati.
However, Mahajan’s appointment did not appear to go down well even with some known Hindutva flag-bearers. Tapan Ghosh, a known Hindutva face in Bengal, took to Twitter to slam Prime Minister Narendra Modi mistaking Rahul Mahajan as the son of the late BJP leader, Pramod Mahajan.
Angry Ghosh wrote, “I am shocked. Really shocked. Rahul Mahajan? That drug addict debauch! That joker! That one time partner of sexy actress Payel Rohtagi! Now I understand why @narendramodi graph is downward.”
Ghosh was instantly corrected by journalists and other social media users. However, undeterred Hindutva leader had refused to delete his tweet at the time of publishing this report.
Silly man ! This is not Rahul Mahajan whom u think but a journalist https://t.co/BXVU8PCGaP
