Rahul Gandhi stitches alliance with Goa Forward Party ahead of assembly polls, shares photo with Vijai Sardesai

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday announced a pre-poll alliance with Goa Forward Party as he shared a photo with Vijai Sardesai.

Sharing a photo with the GFP chief Vijai Sardesai, the Congress leader wrote, “Had a fruitful discussion with Shri Vijay Sardesai & Shri Vinod Palyekar – MLAs of Goa Forward Party and Independent MLA Sri Prasad Gaonkar. They extended their full support to the Congress to bring a positive change in Goa.”

Gandhi added, “I’m happy to have their support.”

Sardesai too appeared overwhelmed by reaching a pre-poll alliance as he tweeted, “Continuance of Goa under @BJP4Goa rule is an impossibility! Met with Shri @RahulGandhi. Proud to be working for the 2nd liberation of #Goa with the great grandson of the person who enabled the 1st! The curse of the communal and anti-Goan @DrPramodPSawant govt will be blown away!”

In 2017, Sardesai’s attempts to stitch an alliance with the Congress had failed as the GFP leader accused the then state Congress leadership of apathy. This resulted in the formation of the BJP government even though the Hindutva party had managed to win only 13 out of the 40 seats in the assembly.

Sardesai joined the government but severed ties after the death of Manohar Parrikar.

Goa goes to polls next year in February.
