Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday slammed the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for his comments that the Sangh was capable of preparing an army within three days.
Speaking in Muzaffarpur, Bhagwat had said, “Sangh will prepare military personnel within three days which the Army would do in 6-7 months. This is our capability. Swayamsewak will be ready to take on the front if the country faces such a situation and Constitution permits to do so).”
Reacting sharply to Bhagwat’s comments, Gandhi said that the RSS chief had insulted ‘every Indian’ and all ‘those who have died for our nation.’
“The RSS Chief’s speech is an insult to every Indian, because it disrespects those who have died for our nation. It is an insult to our flag because it insults every soldier who ever saluted it. Shame on you Mr Bhagwat, for disrespecting our martyrs and our Army,” Gandhi tweeted.
Bhagwat had said that the RSS was neither a military nor a para military organisation adding that it was like a “parivarik sangathan” (family organisation) where ‘discipline is practised like the army.’
His comments had evoked angry reactions from ex-servicemen, members of civil society and journalists on social media with an overwhelming majority of them slamming Bhagwat for insulting the Indian army.
So the RSS chief seems to suggest that the Sangh would do a better job guarding our borders than the army. Not a very ‘nationalistic’ thing to say, is it? https://t.co/BLx27N5HrD

Fantastic. Now, why didn’t we think of this before? Let’s just disband the Indian Army. And the Indian Navy. And the Indian Air Force. @nsitharaman what an idea, Ma’am. Saves us billions of dollars and puts national security in “much better” hands ?https://t.co/1Sdqo2silM

Unlike Indian Army that takes months, RSS can prepare for war in three days: Mohan Bhagwat
That’s such heartening news! Now let’s start reclaiming Aksai Chin, Trans Karakoram and PoK by mid-week. Next week we can start occupying Pakistan and Bangladesh.

During the 2014 Lok Sabha campaign, NaMo said traders are more risk taking than soldiers. Now, Mohan Bhagwat belittles Indian army preparedness. Disrespect for national institutions is in DNA of RSS. #ApologiseRSS https://t.co/C8WmTbSyKs

Faced with the condemnation, the RSS issued a clarification saying that Bhagwat’s statements were being misinterpreted. The statement said that what Bhagwat meant was that if ‘situation arises and the constitution permits’ the army would need six months to prepare the society while Swayamsevaks can be trained in three days.
Here’s what he had said;
