There are reports that the BJP-Akali government in Punjab will not oppose the parole plea by the 1993 Delhi bomb blast convict Devinderpal Singh Bhullar.
Bhullar was recently shidted from Delhi to Punjab on health grounds. The decision was taken after the Badal government gave its consent.
However, the reports suggest that Bhullar did not spend time in Amritsar jail as was originally stated. Instead, the former Khalistan Liberation Force militant was straightway shifted to an air-conditioned room of the Guru Nanak hospital.
Badal government had rejected the idea of Bullar’s presence in Punjab describing him as dangerous.
The decision to transfer Bhullar to Punjab is being seen as the Badal government’s attempt to woo pro-Khalistan elements ahead of Punjab elections. However, the BJP doesn’t appear to be pleased with this idea.
All India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF) chief M S Bitta, who survived the 1993 Delhi blast, has demanded a probe into the shifting of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, who is serving a life term for his role in the blast.
“There must be an inquiry into it. Bhullar’s lawyers have lied about his mental health in the Supreme Court. He is alright and meeting people there, some of them even allegedly involved in terror cases. Bhullar must be brought back to Tihar,” Bitta told PTI earlier this week.
