In a significant development, Poonam Azad Jha, the wife of suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad Jha, who had joined Aam Aadmi Party five months ago, on Tuesday joined the Congress party.

The announced was made during a press conference in Delhi, addressed by the Delhi Congress President Ajay Maken, who was joined by Jha. The development assumes significance in light of this months’ crucial civic body elections in the national capital.

“She has come with her friends from AAP. And we have given her a new responsibility in Congress,” Maken was quoted by IANS.

He added, “And we want to assure her that we will keep on raising the issue of Poorvanchal and Mithilanchal. We hope she will become the voice of Poorvanchal and Mithilanchal in Congress.”

After quitting BJP, Jha had joined AAP in November last year. She had also travelled to Punjab to campaign for AAP during the assembly elections.

Her husband, an MP from Bihar’s Darbhanga constituency, was suspended from the party after he sught to expose the alleged links of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in corruption in the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA).
