Riding bikes without helmet is a crime in India and almost everyone on bikes in the photos posted by Modi on both his Twitter and Facebook pages were not wearing helmets.
This comes days after two cabinet colleagues of the prime minister, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathod and Piyush Goyal, were seen flouting traffic rules by riding a bike without a helmet in Jaipur.
PM Modi had asked BJP workers across India to undertake tiranga yatras to mark 70th anniversary of India’s independence.
The exercise is now fast turning out to be a big cause for embarrassment for the prime minister and his party. One hoped that the prime minister’s social media managers ought to have exercised some cautions before posting the photos of people brazenly breaking traffic laws.
