Pathankot terrorist attack leaves 7 security personnel

Situation at Pathankot air force base continues to remain volatile even hours after the terrorists attacked here killing at least seven security personnel.

According to PTI, a fresh grenade blast ripped through the air force base on Sunday morning claiming the life of an NSG commando, as three other security men succumbed to injuries in a hospital after Saturday’s terror attack taking the toll of Indian security personnel to seven.

Lt Col Niranjan, a member of the NSG’s Bomb Disposal Squad, was killed while defusing the grenade at the scene of the terror attack as part of the combing operations that continued through the night.

Meanwhile, the home secretary in Indian government, Rajiv Mehrishi will address an important news conference at 5 pm later today. This follows the meeting of union defence minister, Manohar Parrikar with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

DIG (Border)Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh to ANI that there are reports of two more terrorists holed up inside the air force base, while the security operation was underway continuing.

On Saturday, four attackers, a Garud commando and three DSC were killed when heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists had attempted to storm the base, triggering a day-long gunbattle at the airbase, barely 35 kms from the Indo-Pak border

Among those battling for their lives in the hospital are 8 DSC personnel?and a Garud commando.

Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, said that he was ‘pained to know about demise of Lt. Col. Niranjan of NSG during mopping out ops at Pathankot adding that ‘nation salutes his sacrifice.’

Security in Delhi has been tightened and the capital was put on high alert.
