Hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman and separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday said that Pakistani flags will continue to wave in Kashmir and described Pakistan as a ‘well-wisher’, according to media reports.
Addressing a seminar at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar, Geelani was reported saying, “Pakistan is our benefactor. It is supporting the right of self determination to Kashmir. People here love Pakistan.” He then added, “Pakistani flags have been waved (in Kashmir) and, Insha Allah (God willing), will be waved in future as well as Pakistan is our neighbour and a well-wisher.”
The remarks by Geelani surfaced after Pakistan flags appeared at Shabir Shah’s rally on Friday. Four people were arrested following a spurt in the nation.
Geelani also asked United Jihad Council (UJC) to probe the background of Lashkar-e-Islam, an organization that has forcibly warned the cellular operators in Kashmir to shut down. “I appeal to Salahuddin to probe what this Lashkar-e-Islam is and who are these people who kill innocents,” Geelani said.
He further added,” Groups like Daesh (Islamic State), Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Islam are defaming Islam and their actions are not related to Islam.”
