The principal of an Odisha school has been suspended after he says he mistakenly made arrangements to condole the death of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpaye.

Vajpayee, who became the first BJP leader to rule India for six years continues to be the most respected leader of the party.

According to reports, the principal in question, while on a work trip, allegedly telephoned his government-run school and informed officials that Mr Vajpayee had died.

He asked his colleagues to give students a day off while suggesting them to hold a condolence meeting.

The principal has since then applogised his mistake.

90-year-old Vajpayee has been unwell in recent years.
