Minutes after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a spectacular surrender before protesting farmers over the controversial farm laws, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reminded how he had predicted this more than 10 months ago.
Taking to Twitter, Gandhi wrote, “Country’s farmers forced the head of the arrogance bow before them. Congratulations on the victory over injustice. Jai Hind and farmers of Jai Hind. #FarmersProtest.”

Gandhi also shared his tweet posted on 14 January this year when he predicted that Modi will have to repeal the controversial laws. He had tweeted, “Mark my words, the Govt will have to take back the anti-farm laws.”
Gandhi had told reporters, “I am very very proud what the farmers are doing. I fully support the farmers and I will continue to stand with them. I raised their issue in a yatra in Punjab. Mark my words, take it from me. These laws, the government will be forced to take them back.”
Modi stunned everyone on Friday by announcing an unscheduled address to the nation when he appeared on the TV to announce that he was repealing the three Farm Laws that farmers alleged were enacted in parliament to help the prime minister’s businessman friends.
He said, “I have come to tell you that we have decided to repeal the three farm laws. In the upcoming Parliament session starting at the end of this month, we will complete the constitutional process to repeal the three farm laws.”
Farmers have been protesting for more than a year demanding the repeal of the farm laws that they said were enacted to help businessman friends of Modi. Nearly 600 farmers lost their lives during the year-long protest.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said that the protest against the Modi government will not end immediately until the laws are formally repealed in parliament. He also demanded assurance from the government on the issue of MSP.
