According to police, the arrested man had clicked her objectionable photos by spiking her drink and threatened to post those photos on social media platforms. The man had allegedly managed to extort Rs 32 lakh from the woman.

This had led her to consume rat poison and slit her wrist with a blade. The deceased is survived by her 56-year-old husband and their two sons. The 43-year-old woman lived in Mira road next to the house of the accused.

“The accused threatened to post the pictures on social media unless the woman paid him money,” an officer at Naya Nagar police station was quoted by Indian Express.

Her husband had found her body lying in the washroom on 4 October with her wrist slashed. She was taken to Bhakti Vedanta Hospital where she was declared dead five days later during the treatment.

Earlier the police had termed her death as a result of accident, but on 1 November one of her relatives had stumbled upon a video message recorded by the woman, who expressed her intention to kill herself. In the video, she had revealed how the her neighbour, now in police custody, had once spiked her water before clicking objectionable photos, two months ago.
