Mukesh Ambani’s elder son Akash Ambani on Saturday proposed to Shloka Mehta, the youngest daughter of billionaire diamond trader Russell Mehta, the owner of Rosy Blue Diamonds. The engagement took place at a small ceremony in Goa on Saturday evening with Mukesh Ambani and his mother Kokilaben being present.
The couple tie knot towards the end of the year. This brings the end to the weeks of social media rumours about their planned wedding. The news on their wedding had gained momentum in the backdrop of two diamond traders, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi fleeing India after committing financial frauds worth thousands of crores of rupees. Nirav’s brother is married to Mukesh Ambani’s niece. Incidentally, their wedding too had taken place in Goa.
Around 50 members of both the families have been staying in Taj Holiday Village hotel, the reported venue of the couple’s engagement.
Both Ambani and Mehta family have known each other for a long time. Shloka, the youngest of the three children of Russell and Mona Mehta, had gone to the same Dhirubhai Ambani International School, where Akash also studied. She later studied anthropology at at Princeton University and masters in Law at the London School of Economics. While Akash is on the board of Reliance Jio, Shloka is a director on Rosy Blue Foundation and also runs ConnectFor, an organisation that helps NGOs get volunteers for various projects.
