Kashmiri separatist leader detained ahead of Friday’s protest against beef ban

Police on Thursday detained Ummat-e-Islamia leader, Qazi Yasir, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag town, 30 km away from Srinagar.

Yasir was scheduled to lead a protest march tomorrow on Friday and slaughter a cow at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, a close aide of Yasir said .

Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag , Abdul Jabar while confirming the detention of Yasir told Jantakareporter.com “Yes, we have detained Qazi Yasir.” He,however,did not divulge more detail.

Earlier in day, Yasir had strongly condemned the ban on beef in Jammu and Kashmir.

While talking to www.jantakareporter.com he had said, “The ban on beef is totally a step towards disturbinf the atmosphere in the state. Our religion does allow us to eat beef. If this ban is not being rolled back then we wave to take to streets and make cow slaughtering.”

Yasir’s father Dr Qazi Nisar had slaughtered cow in 80’s in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk causing huge unrest in the Kashmir valley. Dr Nisar was assassinated in 90s after the militancy broke out in Kashmir valley.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court’s bench on Thursday ordered ban on sale of beef in Jammu and Kashmir prompting separatists, religious leaders,opposition and conman people in Kashmir have react angripy.

Separatist leaders in Kashmir have called for Kashmir bandh on 12 August.
