Minor dies due to snake-bite as doctor refuses to treat, NHRC issues notice

The National Human Rights Commission has now taken suo motu cognizance of media reports stating that a minor boy lost his life after a doctor on duty refused to treat his snake bite and has observed that if true, the incident was a raised a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim.

The victim had been brought by his family for treatment to the Community Health Centre, Goraiyakothi, district Siwan in Bihar on June 17.

Issuing notices to the Bihar Department of Health and Family Welfare secretary and the Siwan Superintendent of Police, the NHRC has called for a report within two weeks.
