Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has taken a dig at Jay Shah’s appointment as the new chief the Asian Cricket Council. Taking to Twitter, Gandhi wrote, “Meritocracy BJP style.”

Son of India’s Home Minister Amit Shah, Jay Shah was elected to the new post on Saturday. He will succeed Nazmul Hassan, President, Bangladesh Cricket Board. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was the first to congratulate his colleague on his new appointment.

With the new appointment, 32-year-old Shah has become the youngest administrator to be appointed as the ACC President.

The BJP has often attacked the Congress for promoting the culture of dynastic politics. The Congress, in its response, has accused the BJP of indulging in nepotism by repeatedly highlighting the growth of Jay Shah, first on a business front and then in cricket administration.

In 2018, Gandhi had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on Jay Shah’s alleged corruption. “If you want to talk about corruption, talk a bit about Amit Shah son’s corruption. How he made Rs80 crore out of Rs50,000 in three months. You should also be telling this to the country,” the Congress leader was quoted as saying.

Shah was appointed as the BCCI General Secretary even without prior experience in the game of cricket.
