Massive fire at Make In India event in Mumbai, Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, CM Fadnavis evacuated


A massive fire broke out on Sunday evening just when a cultural programme at Make In India week event was underway in Mumbai. The fire broke out below the stage during the programme.

News agency ANI posted the video of the moment when the fire broke out.

TV reports said that several VIPs including actors Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis were present at the event.

Time of India quoted the BJP leader Poonam Mahajan as saying, “The fire was uncontrollable, luckily people have been evacuated. The authorities worked very quickly. It was unfortunate, but everybody got out safe including VVIPs, 20,000 to 25,000 people were there. Suddenly the fire broke out. Luckily, the fire exits were clearly defined.”

Lyricist Prasoon Joshi said,  “I was there at the event because Mr Bachchan was reciting my poem. As soon as the recital got over, I left the venue and another event started and suddenly the fire broke out. I was out looking for my car when this happened, hope everyone is safe.”

Sonakshi Sinha said, “Seeing fire breakout from so up close at Make in India was scary! My act was up next. Hope everyone is out safe & sound.”

Fadnavis said, “Very unfortunate occurrence of fire in cultural program organised by GoM at Mumbai. No casualties reported, no one is injured.”

The eyewitnesses said the fire was caused by fire crackers. Although the organisers made every attempts to douse the flames using small fire extinguishers, but the it became uncontrollable in no time forcing a mass evacuation.

Fadnavis said that the government had ordered an inquiry to find out the reason for the fire.

He said, “A comprehensive inquiry into the incidence of fire will be conducted to ascertain reasons.”
