Manohar Parrikar on Thursday won the trust vote in Goa assembly with 22 MLAs voting in his support. Goa has 40 MLAs and Parrikar needed just 21 legislators to win the trust vote.
According to reports, 16 MLAs opposed the trust vote while one remained absent. Congress had won 17 seats in the just concluded assembly polls.
BJP had won 13 seats, Goa Forward Party, which won the assembly polls vowing to drive BJP out of the state, three while MGP won 3 seats.
Speaking to reporters, Parrikar said that he did not want to comment about other parties adding that he will hold his first cabinet meeting on Friday and one portfolio each will be allocated then.
“Digvijay Singh’s claims that he had numbers are debunked. They didn’t have numbers right from the beginning. It was only a hype possibly because there was a demand that was coming that Digvijay step down as general secretary,” Parrikar said.
He said that his government will soon agree on a common minimum programme. The common minimum programme, he said, will also include Goanness, which has been a key agenda of Goa Forward Party.
Parrikar was joined by Vijai Sardesai from Goa Forward Party and leader of MGP.
