The Shiromani Akali Dal has reacted angrily to the central government’s decision to withdraw Z-Plus security cover for its leader, Bikram Majithia. The decision to withdraw Majithia’s Z-plus security cover came two months after the Akali Dal severed ties with the BJP over the controversial Farm Bills.
Reacting to the development, Akali Dal leader Dr. Daljit S Cheema said, “Shiromani Akali Dal condemns the arbitrary, dictatorial & politically motivated decision of the @BJP4India led central government to withdraw the Z+ category security cover of former minister and senior leader of the party Bikram Majithia.”
Former Education Minister of Punjab, Cheema added, “Clearly S. Majithia is a victim of political vendetta. SAD will not be cowed down by such tactics & will continue to stand with farmers & Punjabis against the central laws & any other issue which weakens the federal structure or is intrinsically anti-Punjab.”
Announcing the decision to sever ties with the NDA, Akali Dal’s Sukhbir Badal had said in September, “Shiromani Akali Dal core committee decides unanimously to pull out of the BJP-led #NDA because of the Centre’s stubborn refusal to give statutory legislative guarantees to protect assured marketing of crops on #MSP and its continued insensitivity to Punjabi and #Sikh issues.”
Sukhbir Badal’s wife and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal had resigned from the Centre’s Narendra Modi government on 17 September in protest against what she said were anti-farmer ordinances and legislation.
