LIVE UPDATES: 3 BJP office-bearers killed in Jammu and Kashmir; Omar Abdullah calls it ‘terrible news’


Police in Jammu and Kashmir say that three BJP office-bearers have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir in a terrorist attack. All those killed were part of the party’s youth wing. They are identified as Fida Hussain Itoo (BJYM District General Secretary, Kulgam), Umer Rashid Beigh (BJYM District Executive Member, Kulgam) and Umer Hanan (BJYM District General Secretary, Kulgam).

The party issued a statement condemning ‘this barbaric terror attack on BJP leaders.’ According to the BJP,  those responsible for the attack ‘will not be spared.’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “I condemn the killing of 3 of our young Karyakartas. They were bright youngsters doing excellent work in J&K. My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls rest in peace.”

Reacting to the news, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, “Terrible news from Kulgam district of South Kashmir. I unequivocally condemn the targeted killing of the 3 BJP workers in a terror attack. May Allah grant them place in Jannat & may their families find strength during this difficult time.”
