Opposition parties have slammed the Narendra Modi-government’s decision to pass the land ordinance for the third time despite their inability to get consensus in the parliament.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to vent out his anger and disagreement regarding the whole issue. He tweeted

Earlier, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar told reporters in Patna that the “farmers across India were very angry and yet the government is not bothered.”

He said, “It is well known that these people want to take away farmers’ land. They can’t pass it in the Rajya Sabha and that’s what they want to bring in ordinance after ordinance to do this.”

The Union Cabinet gave a nod to the land ordinance for the third time yesterday, after it failed to get support for the Land Acquisition Bill in Parliament due to a strong no-no from the stiff Opposition.

Speaking to the media, Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the decision to re-promulgate the ordinance was taken to “ensure continuity” so that “farmers don’t suffer”.
