Kamal Haasan all set to join CPI-M: Sources

Days after veteran Tamil actor Kamal Haasan made it clear he would never join hands with the Hindutva groups, sources say he was all set to join the Communist Party of India- Marxist.

Haasan has also reportedly confirmed taking part in an event organised by by a pro-Communist Party of India (Marxist) study and research centre in Kozhikode in Kerala on 16 September. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the seminar. The veteran actor joining the Marxist party is mere formality, said CPI-M sources in Kerala.

Haasan had met Vijayan on 1 September when he told media that he wasn’t joining the BJP since saffron wasn’t his colour.

He had said, “I have been talking to Kerala CM (Pinarayi Vijayan) about it, taking advice, will meet more politicians before I make my call. My colour is obviously seen over the 40 years I have been working in cinema, definitely it’s not saffron. I want to be in the middle of things, not leaning to any side.”

If indeed Haasan joins the CPI-M, this will be a huge setback to the traditional two parties of Tamil Nadu namely AIADMK and DMK, both of whom have had their share of corruption allegations in the state. All eyes will then be if another Tamil superstar Rajinikanth too throws his weight any political party or floats a new entity of his own.
