Jitin Prasada on Saturday met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take the latter’s blessings. This came just days after Prasada quit the Congress to join the BJP.
Prasada, a former aide of Rahul Gandhi, was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “As you know, I got the opportunity to join the BJP under the guidance and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party national President Nadda ji, and the Home Minister. This is my first visit to my home state. I took the Chief Minister’s blessings.”
He added, “I’ve discussed with CM Yogi Adityanath how to give benefit to people of dfferent govt programs & how to strengthen the party to serve the country & the state better.”

Prasada had stunned his party by formally joining the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni. He had lost three successive elections since 2014.
The timing of his decision to join the BJP assumed significance since the UP is scheduled to go for assembly polls in February next year. The jury is still out if his presence in the BJP would help the Hindutva party.
Prasada was made a union minister immediately after he won his first parliamentary polls in 2004 at the age of 31. However, he has been unable to win a single polls since the Congress was voted out of power in 2014. He also tried his luck in the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, but had to face defeat. In 2019 too, Prasada failed to get himself elected to the parliament.
