BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on Sunday announced Rs 40 lakh cash prize for each player after the India Under19 team created history by winning the World Cup for a record fifth time. BCCI President Sourav called the Indian victory ‘absolutely breathtaking.’

In another tweet, Shah had said, “Congratulations #BoysInBlue on winning the @ICC U19 World Cup. This is a Very Very Special @VVSLaxman281 win against all odds. Each of our youngsters has shown the heart and temperament needed to make history in these trying times #INDvENG #U19CWCFinal.”
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly tweeted, “Absolutely breathtaking and tremendous skills under pressure.”
He added, “Congratulations to the under 19 team and the support staff and the selectors for winning the world cup in such a magnificent way ..The cash prize announced by us of 40 lakhs is a small token of appreciation but their efforts are beyond value .. magnificent stuff.. @bcci.”

This was after India defeated England by four wickets in the final to lift the coveted trophy. Shaik Rasheed and Nishant Sindhu were the joint top scorers. While Rasheed was out for 50, Sindhu remained unbeaten at the same score.
