India’s Manushi Chillar crowned Miss World 2017

India’s Manushi Chillar has been crowned Miss World 2017 in China. The 21-year-old beauty queen is from Haryana. The event took place at the Sanya City Arena in China.

She was also named one of the five winners of the Beauty with a Purpose award at Miss World 2017 here on Saturday.

She was crowned Miss India World at the finale event, held in Mumbai earlier this year. Manushi, who’s pursuing a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery, is also passionate about outdoor sports such as paragliding, bungee jumping, snorkelling and scuba diving, reported Times Now.

In an earlier interview, she had said that winning Miss World title was her childhood dream. She had said, “As a kid, I always wanted to participate in the competition but I never knew I would make it this far. Winning the Miss World title is now not just my dream, but also that of my family and friends. I know it’s going to be a journey that I will never forget. Whatever the result, I am going to learn, enjoy and give it my best. The rest, I leave to destiny.”

Manushi is also working on her project on menstrual hygiene in the country and has visited 20 villages.

“The cause is close to my heart, and in my own way, I have managed to make a difference to the lives of about 5,000 women. If an organisation like Miss World backs it, it could reach a different level altogether,” she was quoted as saying.

The previous winners of this coveted title from India include Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Diana Hayden and Yukta Mukhi.

This is what she posted on her Facebook with the photo (below) just before the contest, “oday is the finale of the 67th @missworld ! I cannot express how happy I am to be a part of this journey. I have met so many beautiful people and made great memories. Can’t wait for all of you to witness the show the whole team has worked so hard to put together!”
