India Today Group has sacked a journalist working for Aaj Tak TV channel for his tweet describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘shameless.’
Journalist Shyam Meera Singh took to Twitter to write, “I am terminated from my channel Aaj Tak (India Today Group) for writing these two tweets on Prime minister Modi.”
One of his tweets on PM Modi read, “Who says Respect the Prime Minister. They should first ask Modi to respect the post of Prime Minister post. (sic)”
His other tweet in Hindi read, “When I write something on Twitter here, some people start tagging my employer. They say, ‘sack him. Why don’t you sack him?’ But I post next tweet with more vigour. I will not desist from writing about this. Modi is a shameless Prime Minister.”

Singh also shared the screenshot of the termination letter that he received from the HR department of India Today Group. The said termination letter had both his tweets attached.
Singh’s sacking became a topic of intense social media conversations with many slamming India Today Group for glaring double standards in acting against its staff over social media posts. Some reminded how the media group turned a blind eye to staff, who used their social media handles to praise the BJP government.

In 2019, Aaj Tak anchor Nishant Chaturvedi had not lost his job for violating the company’s so-called social media politicies for his ‘the classist, racist, xenophobe and casteist remark’ on the microblogging site.
