Former Congress MP Milind Deora on Wednesday took to social media to issue immediate advice to the Congress leadership after Jitin Prasada joined the BJP in Delhi. Deora, who too has been a close aide of Rahul Gandhi just like Prasada, said that the Congress ‘still have a strong bench that if empowered & optimally utilised, can deliver.’
Deora wrote on Twitter, “I believe in @INCIndia as a party that can & must reclaim its position as India’s big tent party. We still have a strong bench that if empowered & optimally utilised, can deliver.”

I only wish that several of my friends, peers & valued colleagues hadn’t left us.

Milind Deora is a son of a veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Murli Deora and was first elected to parliament at the age of 28. His proximity to Rahul Gandhi earned him a cabinet berth in the Manmohan Singh government in the latter’s second term as prime minister. But, like Prasada, he too has been unable to win a single election since losing his Mumbai seat in 2014.
Prasada on Wednesday joined the BJP ahead of the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking at the press conference organised by the BJP, Prasada said, “I’ve realised over the last 8-10 years after meeting people and travelling across the country that the BJP was the only real institutional political outfit. The rest has been reduced to the individual-centric and regional outfit.”
The jury is still out on Prasada’s ability to positively impact the BJP in the next assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh given his inability to emerge as a mass leader.
