How Congress outsmarted ‘Chanakya’ Amit Shah in the battle for Karnataka

The Supreme Court on Saturday hear a petition challenging the appointment of BJP legislator KG Bopaiah as Pro-Term Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly hours before the floor test is scheduled in the assembly.

Bopaiah will be presiding over the floor test on Saturday to ascertain whether newly-appointed Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa enjoys a majority support in the Assembly or not. The BJP has won 104 seats in the just-concluded assembly elections. The Congress and the JDS had won 78 and 38 seats respectively.

On Friday, the Congress had released a sensational audio tape of the tainted mining baron Janardhana Reddy and a. Ingress MLA whereby the latter was heard offering crores of rupees to the Congress legislator in exchange of his support for the BJP.

A team of Congress leaders arrived at the Supreme Court on Friday evening to file the petition. Once the plea is accepted by the Registry, they will approach the registrar (vacation) for an early hearing late on Friday.
