India’s Hindutva brigade is facing widespread condemnation for celebrating the tragic death of Pulitzer Prize-winning Reuters photojournalist Danish Siddiqui.
The troll army of the Hindutva brigade had quickly taken to social media to celebrate the tragic death of Danish. This evoked angry reactions from netizens, who minced no words in condemning the despicable act of the Hindutva fanatics.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, “That @dansiddiqui was killed by the Taliban while doing his job in Afghanistan is tragic but the fact that there are bastards out there celebrating his death because Danish was good at his job & made them uncomfortable is beyond reprehensible. Rot in hell RW trolls.”

Danish was responsible for bringing global attention to the second wave of the pandemic gripping India through his powerful photographs and videos. He had also exposed the government’s inept handling of the human tragedy that caused hundreds of thousands of people to die due to lack of access to basic healthcare and oxygen.
The 38-year-old globally-renowned photojournalist had won the Pulitzer award for his photographs on Rohingya immigrants arriving at the shores of Bangladesh.
They hate Danish because he was a Muslim who spoke truth to power and shattered their well-crafted PR image with his brutally honest photos. This is also why they celebrate his death. #danishsiddiqui

I actually stayed away from checking tweets yesterday. I don’t want to get used to the hatred. I want to resist it each time. And sometimes being here just makes you unemotional, even used to that kind of hatred. So, took a break.

RW trolls have descended on Danish’s Instagram to celebrate his death and post vile comments. THIS hatred is the most defining legacy of the current regime and dispensation. Absolute scum pic.twitter.com/bA7QIko18I

Almost every major #Bengali newspaper in #Bengal has generously carried the story of #DanishSiddiqui, got personal accounts, memoirs, dedicated half a page in remembering his brave work. One header reads “Danish: Fallen in the line of duty”. Let’s celebrate bravery not his death. pic.twitter.com/iLTxJKGmCR
