Harsh Vardhan has resigned from his post as the union health minister. His resignation came just hours before the cabinet reshuffle in the Narendra Modi government.
Harsh Vardhan had faced considerable criticism for his inept handling of the pandemic with many terming him the worst-ever health minister of India. He was seen holding a press conference along with the controversial founder of Patanjali, Ramdev, to promote his dubious product, coronil.
There are also reports of four other ministers quitting the cabinet. They included Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar, Sanjay Dhotre (Minister of State for Education, Communications, Electronics & IT), and Rao Saheb Dhanve Patil (Union MoS for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution).
There are also reports of Minister of State for Women and Child Development Minister Debasree Chaudhuri also resigning from the cabinet.
As many as 43 ministers are likely to take the oath of office today. Some of the names speculated to be included in the cabinet are Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sushil Modi and Sarbananda Sonowal.
