Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday triggered speculations on whether former India bowler Harbhajan Singh was set to join the party ahead of the assembly polls in the state.
Sharing a photo of himself with Harbhajan, the cricketer-turned-politician wrote on Twitter, “Picture loaded with possibilities …. With Bhajji the shining star.”

Harbhajan, for his part, has not reacted to speculations over his possible entry into electoral politics.
Sidhu reportedly wooing Harbhajan ahead of the assembly polls comes after several reports said that the BJP had approached the former India spinner to contest from the Amritsar constituency.
Amritsar has been a Congress bastion for many years with Captain Amarinder Singh, who has now formed his own party to contest polls with the BJP, winning from here.
If Harbhajan indeeds joins the Congress, he would be following the footsteps of his former India teammate Gautam Gambhir, who won the Lok Sabha seat from Delhi as a BJP MP candidate in the 2019 elections.
Sidhu’s stature has grown significantly in the Congress as the party made him the president of the Punjab unit. His elevation prompted Amarinder Singh to resign as the state chief minister and sever ties with the Congress.
Punjab goes to polls in February next year. The Congress had won a sizeable majority in the 2017 elections.
