Gun battle between militants and security forces in Baramulla, two militants killed

There are reports of a gunfight between the security forces and militants during a cordon and search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Two Lashkar militants have reportedly be gunned down by security forces.

The operation had started on Monday morning.

An IANS report said that the security forces received information about the presence of militants in Shankar Gund area on the outskirts of Sopore town. Police said that the security agencies were preparing to cordon off and search the place when the incident occurred.

“As the cordon was tightened, the militants started firing triggering the encounter,” a police officer said. The firing is still on.

Earlier on Sunday, the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing of small and heavy arms in Amrodin, Chatkadi and Sadipora in Karnah of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, reported news agency ANI.

Before this, Pakistan violated ceasefire in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC).

The Pakistan Army also violated ceasefire in the Mankot sector area along the LoC of Poonch on Sunday.
