A GoAir plane coming from Mumbai hit an aerobridge at Chennai airport on Friday morning, but all 168 passengers are safe. However, a portion of the aircraft was damaged in the accident.

Reports said that the plane hit the aerobridge while aligning with it and the fuselage was damaged in the process. It later emerged that the plane could have collided because the aerobridge operator was on the phone during alignment.

The A320 aircraft had arrived from Mumbai at 6:22 am. Ten minutes later it hit the aerobridge. Sources say the operator, who was on the phone, was ‘moving very fast’ despite the airline staff warning him not to do so.

Passengers had to exit the plane from the rear door later using a step ladder.
