UP’s Muzaffarnagar district is once again in the grip of a fresh tension. This time the area is tense following the murder of a youth in Bhumadhya village.
A PTI report quoting local police said that the tension prevailed in the village after the murder of a youth by miscreants of another community this evening, police said.
Four persons on bikes opened fire on Satbir (25) on Monday killing him on the spot in Miranpur area.
Incensed locals resorted to stone pelting before damaging a police vehicle, police said.
Senior police officers and administrative officers are reported to have rushed to the spot and have brought situation under control. Police said that the security has been tightened and extra police force has been deployed in the village.
On Friday, a group of right wing activists had paraded and thrashed a youth (Riyaz) in Shamli on the suspicion that the latter had slaughtered a cow.
This incident, when reported by Janta Ka Reporter, had evoked angry reaction from right minded people and the members of the civil society.
After Jantakareporter.com published the story, the police were forced to file criminal cases against the attackers.
However, the police said that there was no link to Monday’s incident with that of parading and thrashing of a youth in Shamli on Friday.
Since the infamous communal riots in 2013 when more than 50 people were killed in a communal riot, Muzaffarnagar has been experiencing sporadic incidents of communal violence.
