Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait calls Sambit Patra ‘behuda’ in TV debate, furious BJP spokesperson reacts

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait addressed BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra as ‘behuda’ during a recent TV debate on Aaj Tak, moderated by Chitra Tripathi. The video of Tikait using the disparaging terms to address a BJP leader has gone viral on social media.

Interrupting Patra, Tikat said during the debate, “I don’t want to talk to you. Chitra ji, I will only talk to you. I don’t want to talk to such behuda (obnoxious) people. I will only speak to you (the TV anchor).”

Tikait then ‘ordered’ Patra to be removed from the TV frame as he kept saying, ‘hatao isko (remove him at once).”

Patra later complained to the TV anchor for allowing the farmer leader to publicly insult him. “Chitra ji ye uchit nahi hai, is tarah se mujhe TV frame mein rakh kar gaali galauj kiya jai. Kis prakar ka ahankar hai ye? (Chitra ji, this is not appropriate. Abuses are being hurled while I am in the TV frame. What kind of arrogance is this?)”

Farmers have been staging sit-in protests at the Delhi borders for more months demanding the withdrawal of the controversial Farm Bills. The government has refused to accept their demands. These farmers include from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, among other states.

Tikait is a tall farmer leader from Uttar Pradesh and wields considerable clout among the Jat community in western Uttar Pradesh. This belt is very crucial for the success of the BJP in the next assembly polls, scheduled for February 2021.

Patra was recently in the news after a Congress spokesperson called him naali ka keeda (gutter worm) during a TV debate. The BJP spokesperson had addressed the Congress leader Gali Wali Madam.
