Literally taking their protest on the ‘One Rank, One Pension’ (OROP) to a new high, four ex-servicemen climbed atop a water tank in Punjab’s Ludhiana on Friday to seek its implementation.
They threatened to jump off if their demand was not met.
The ex-servicemen, hailing from Tarn Taran district, remained atop the water tank in chilly weather conditions throughout the day even as officials tried to persuade them to come down.
The protestors, who hung a huge banner from the water tank on their demands, were perched atop the water tank at the time of filing of this report late on Friday evening.
“We have been forced to take this step to get government attention to our plight,” ex-servicemen Harpal Singh said.
Though the Centre has notified the OROP scheme, ex-servicemen are not satisfied with its provisions.
