A video of a man in Rajasthan attacking an elderly Muslim with axe before setting him on fire has gone viral on social media platforms. The incident took place on Dev heritage road in Rajnagar area of Rajsamand. The victim has been identified as Mohammed Bhatta Sheikh.

However, other media reports said that the identity of the victim was Afrazul, a daily wage worker from West Bengal’s Malda district. The killer has been identified as Shambhu Lal.

Police say that they have arrested the killer. The victim is believed to be a 50-year-old man.

In the video, now gone viral, the killer is seen ranting about love jihad and how he had taken upon himself to teach every perpetrator of love jihad a similar lesson in future. He’s seen first attacking the Muslim man with axe before pouring kerosine on hime to burn the victim.

RajasthanHome Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said that the episode had left him shocked. He said, “How he killed the man and made a video of it. The accused has been arrested and a special investigation team (SIT) has been set up for investigation in the case.”

Rajasthan has seen a phenomenal rise in hate crimes targetting Muslims under the current BJP government headed by Vasundhara Raje Scindia. Most notable among the hate crimes was of Pehlu Khan, who was lynched to death by the Hindutva terrorists, masquerading as cow vigilantes. Six of the attackers of Pehlu Khan were later exonerated evoking angry reactions from the members of civil society in India.

The story sent shockwaves across the globe but for Indian TV channels, it was business as usual as they debated more pressing issues of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi neech (lowly) person.

There have also not been any reactions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi or his cabinet and party colleagues, who, not so long ago, were busy convincing the world just how much they cared about their ‘Muslim sisters’ on Triple Talaq issue.
