Demonetisation debate abruptly halted because PM Modi is not in Rajya Sabha, once again

The BSP supremo, Mayawati, wanted the Rajya Sabha chairman to ensure Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present during the debate on demonetisation after the lunch break.

However, when the MPs returned after their lunch break to resume the debate, PM Modi was absent from the Upper House once again.

This meant that the truce reached between the opposition parties and the government was short lived.

The House was adjourned till 3 PM even though Finance Minister Arun Jaitley assured that Modi will be back in the House soon.

He said, “The opposition wants to run away from debate on the notes ban and is looking for reasons to do so.”
