The Delhi Police have launched an investigation after a woman sensationally alleged that a self-styled godman had repeatedly raped her and her minor daughter at his ashram in the national capital.

A report by PTI said that the woman claimed she was raped by self-styled godman Ashu Maharaj from 2008 to 2013 by his friends and his son.

She alleged that the godman even asked her to bring her minor daughter to him and raped her. A case was registered with the Hauz Khas police station last week and the probe was transferred to the Crime Branch Sunday.

The woman reportedly told the cops that she had come in contact with Ashu Maharaj seeking the treatment for his ailing daughter in 2008. A report by Pioneer said that the godman would often strip her six-year-old daughter off to massage her as part of his ‘treatment.’

According to the complaint, in 2013, the woman’s daughter was given a drink laced with sedatives when she visited the ashram to deliver Diwali gifts. According to a report by Times of India, in 2016, the godman’s son, Saurabh called the woman to visit him in the ashram. When she reached there to meet the godman’s son, Saurabh and his friends gang-raped her.

The godman allegedly told her that whatever ‘belonged to him’ could be shared by his son.

The police have filed a case under sections 376 (dealing with rape), 354 (dealing with sexual harassment) and 506 (dealing with criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal code and the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were registered.
