Boy told girl ‘needed to talk privately,’ took Delhi teen to park, raped her in darkness

Police in India’s national capital Delhi say that they have arrested a teenager for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, his class-mate. According to police complaint, the boy took the victim into a dark, deserted park on the pretext of talking to her privately before he sexually assaulted her.

Police said the incident occurred in east Delhi on Friday evening when the accused identified as Chand Alam, a resident of New Seemapuri, called the victim to the park.

“During investigation, it was found that the accused took the victim into the park to roam and talk privately. Taking advantage of darkness, he forced himself on her and sexually assaulted here,” a senior police officer was quoted by IANS

“The two knew each other. She claimed that he intimidated her, following which he committed the alleged sexual act,” said the officer.

Police said the girl returned home and told her relatives about the incident, and they took her to the police station.

The victim and her parents later filed a complaint against Chand Alam, who was arrested from his residence later in the night and charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, the officer added.
