UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will meet Congress chief ministers in a conference on Tuesday to discuss the agrarian crisis and the controversial Land Acquisition Bill.

According to reports, the meet will focus on the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s “anti-poor, anti-farmer” policies and the negative impact it is having on the nation.

The meeting will be addressed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party vice president Rahul Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh. The party is also expected to target the NDA government over its policy on foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail.

Some state-specific issues are also likely to be addressed by different ministers.

Congress is currently in power in nine states — Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
