CJI NV Ramana-led Supreme Court Bench will on Wednesday pronounce its order into a batch of pleas seeking an independent probe into Pegasus snooping matter.
In September this year, CJI Ramana had indicated that the top court may order the setting up of an expert committee to probe the allegations of snooping by the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Pegasus snooping scandal has rocked Indian politics after it emerged that phones of several journalists, opposition politicians, certain ministers in the cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa and other key individuals may have been compromised by using the Israeli spyware Pegasus.
Congress leader Rahul had called it an issue of sedition as he asked for a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the case. “#PegasusSnoopgate is an issue of sedition. Our demand is simple- This should be investigated under the supervision of the Supreme Court so that the country knows this seditious act was committed at whose behest. PM or the HM,” Gandhi had said.
