China’s Zhang Dejiang pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

China’s Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhang Dejiang on Monday paid tributes to Mahatama Gandhi at Rajghat.

Zhang, who arrived in New Delhi late on Sunday night, had earlier met Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao and stressed upon strengthening cooperation between the Parliaments and provincial legislatures of India and China.

He also lauded Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India in Saptember 2014, followed by Prime Minister Modi’s visit to China earlier this year, stating that the two tours have added a ‘new dimension’ to the relations between the two countries.

Vikas Swaroop, the official spokesperson of the ministry of External Affairs tweeted:

“Indians demonstrated their friendship with China in its gravest hour,” he said while referring to Kotnis’ services and added that Kotnis is still commemorated and remembered in China and India.
