In a chilling development, nine people were killed and three others injured in multiple landslides in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district on Sunday as the camera captured the landslide that also destroyed a bridge connecting Sangla and Chitkul with the rest of India.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to kin of those who lost their lives in the accident in Kinnaur, news agency ANI reported.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The incident of landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur is tragic. My heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in this incident. All arrangements are being made to treat those injured in this tragedy. I pray for their speedy recovery.”
He added, “An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in an accident in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.”

In the viral video, heavy boulders could be seen rolling down the mountains in lightning speed. One tempo carrying 11 people also came under some of these heavy boulders, resulting in the deaths of nine people.

The bridge connecting Sangla and Chitkul with the rest of the country also collapsed.
The weather department had predicted landslides in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy rainfall, predicted in the next few days.
