A Delhi court on Tuesday convicted Uber driver Shiv Kumar Yadav for raping a woman executive in his cab on the night of December 5, 2014.
Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja convicted Yadav for various offences under the Indian Penal Code. Yadav was held guilty for rape, causing grievous bodily harm and for the offence of endangering the life of a woman.
The convict’s sentencing is scheduled for October 22. The woman’s father, who was present in the courtroom, appeared relieved after the court verdict.
The rape occurred on the night of December 5 last year, when the survivor, a finance executive working in Gurgaon, was returning to her house in North Delhi after work.
The victim had identified Yadav for the first time in the Tis Hazari court premises when she had gone there to record her statement and the second time in the trial of the case.
Driver Shiv Kumar Yadav was arrested on December 7 from Mathura.
Advocate D K Mishra, lawyer of Yadav, argued that there were several contradictions in the prosecution’s story and the alleged survivor’s version.
The trial in the case began on January 15. All the 28 prosecution witnesses supported the case in their evidence while lawyer of accused,Shiv Kumar Yadav, argued that he had been implicated in the case.
