India’s Border Security Force, known as the BSF, has said one of its deputy commandants died on Sunday during a physical training programme in Baisnabnagar area of West Bengal. The BSF officer has been identified as Ajit Singh Tanwar of the 78 battalion.
Quoting a statement from the BSF, news agency PTI reported that Tanwar died during training in which 25 personnel, including BSF officers, were involved. Tanwar reportedly lost his balance and fell on the ground during the training. He complained of chest pain after recovering.
The officer was immediately taken in a BSF ambulance to the NTPC hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
According to the BSF, the exact cause of his death will only be known after the post-mortem report is released.
The 55-year-old officer in question hailed from Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan and had served in the BSF for 33 years.
He had also contributed as a coach in the Jammu Frontier of the BSF.
